The average e-commerce website only converts 1-4% of their leads. According to the Wolfgang e-commerce KPI study 2014, the average conversion rate across all industries is 1.4%.  The best e-commerce websites convert upward of 15% of their visitors. There are many factors that differentiate the best e-commerce websites from the average e-commerce websites, but persuasive imagery has proven to be a powerful tool in increasing online product sales.

People no longer want to browse a website they want to experience it. An image is ALWAYS the first thing that a visitor will notice as soon as he lands on your stores product page.


Good quality imagery is an investment worth making in an increasingly saturated and competitive online market. Consider a product pages load time, for example. Amazon calculated that one additional second of load time on their product pages would cost them $1.6 billion in annual sales. So.  knowing all of this, what can you do to improve your conversion rate and ultimately your sales?

Tips for E-Commerce Images to Improve Your Conversion Rate (and Ultimately Sales):

  1. Do not place a large image on your web page and simply shrink the dimensions via the source code. This will increase your page load time because of the larger file size.
  2. Do reduce your resolution and image size, while providing the option to view larger image in a pop-up or to be displayed on a separate web page.
  3. Avoid using generic stock photos. Try to use pictures of real people using your products. A real product picture will convert better than a stock picture.
  4. Dont just show one image, show different angles or details.
